Winter activities in the neighbourhood

The dream of pure nature!

Some activities you just have to enjoy ...

♥ HORSE DRAWN SLEIGH RIDES ♥

Discover the landscape around Ramsau on the Dachstein with 2 HP. Horse sports is one of the most natural sporting movements. We will be happy to book horse-drawn sleigh rides at the Ferchtlhof (a 2-minute walk away from the Sonnhof)!

♥ WINTER HIKING ♥

Ramsau am Dachstein, in the holiday region Schladming-Dachstein, in addition to excellent cross-country infrastructure also has a 70 km comprehensive winter hiking trail network to offer. The Ramsauer Sonnenplateau offers ideal landscape conditions for winter hiking at the foot of the Dachstein, divided into winter hiking trails and winter hiking trails. With the start of the season, the paths are prepared and are then available to hikers and horse sleds off the roads. The broad Ramsau winter hiking trails are usually flat, in open and sunny terrain. The only crossroad is the horse sleds. The narrow winter hiking trails usually running along the edge of the forest, are ideal in case of snowfall, protected against wind and sometimes also offer steeper passages. Many guest houses with cozy rooms, rustic cabins and sunny terraces in Ramsau invite you to stop. The Ramsau bus connection offers additional, and gentle variants. In the winter hiking map of Ramsau, all tracks have been drawn in and described.

 ♥ SNOW SHOE HIKING ♥

Far away from civilization you walk most comfortable wearing snow boots. In the midst of the deeply snow-covered mountain world you walk on ancient paths, just like the mountain crusts centuries ago: unaffected, natural, unmistakable. The more expansive the route, the better is the knowledge of the area and the handling of the high alpine nature. The Ramsau mountain and ski guides, as well as the ski and cross-country ski schools, not only offer an excellent escort service, they also lead to the best and safest areas. In Ramsau am Dachstein, some snowshoe trails are marked and described in the winter hiking guide.

♥ SKITOURING ♥

The Dachstein has got the nickname "Austria's Tour Eldorado". A total of 16 ski tours, crossings and steep descents will start from the top station of the Dachstein-Gletscher-Bahn and from Ramsau. Also Austria's national ski tour, the Dachsteinüberquerung directly after Hallstatt or Obertraun, has its starting point in Ramsau am Dachstein.

The National-Skitour is 25 km long, prepared and therefore also recommended for beginners. You can also cross the Dachstein crossing with alpine skis, with short stretches of skis or skating. Freeriders will find plenty of opportunities on the Dachstein to pull their turns into the deep snow away from the prepared route to Hallstatt. There is also the possibility to stop at the Simonyhütte or the Gjaidalm, where you can enjoy glaciers at the Nationalskitour.
Insider tip: Inquire at Ramsauer Verkehrsbetriebe or at the base station of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn as well as at the Planai-Bahnen for returning transfers from Obertraun or Hallstatt. These are offered several times a week during the tour season.
In the newly created Tourenskilauf Folder from the Ramsau and the Dachsteingletscher, you will find numerous routes along the Ramsau plateau and the alpine region to Filzmoos as well as from the surrounding regions, Schladming, Planai, Galsterberg and Hochwurzen.

♥ FREERIDING ♥

Glittering crystals as far as the eye can see. Powder fans are enthusiastic about the Dachstein, which does not carry the nickname "Austrias touring eldorado" for nothing. Numerous ski tours, steep slopes, ski routes and freerides can be reached both from the Dachstein plateau in Ramsau or even from Hallstatt. The most spectacular among the downhill runs is the "Edelgrieß", which is challenged by self-trained alpinists. The "Freeride" descent "Edelgrieß" is regarded as the most beautiful freeride descent of the Alps in insider circles. However, "step security" and advanced skills are necessary to wag over the southern massif of the Dachstein to Ramsau-Ort. Deep powder snow in magnificent rock faces with views of the Planai and Schladming, slopes up to 45 degrees. Between steep rock barriers and limestone walls are kare, gutters and firnranks of the Dachstein. This spectacular downhill run to Ramsau is 8 kilometers long!

♥ SLEDDING & NIGHT SLEDDING IN RAMSAU ♥

Night sledding on the Rittisberg, Snowtubing or Zipfelbob riding. Snow dust in the face, laughter everywhere. One of the most beautiful winter activities is certainly sledging. Children as well as adults enjoy sledding downhill. During the day, sledging from the Ramsau alpine region to the valley is possible (on the ski trail, toboggan rental on site in the GH Hunerkogel). One of the most beautiful natural toboggan runs is offered at the Rittisberg in the evening. The route is particularly recommendable for families and children, as dozens of fairytale figures flank the toboggan run. With the chairlift you can easily hover upwards, then the night-time tobogganing can begin on the 3,5 km long route. The tobogganes are available at the top for the guests and are included in the price. The chip can be obtained at the cash desk. It is not possible to ride the toboggan run with your own sleds.

Insider tip for families: Have you ever tried snowtubing? At the Rösterstube, on the winter hiking trail in the direction of Halseralm, you can slide down a small halfpipe with these giant tires, and ride a tailor-made run with the Zipfelbob in Ramsau Vorberg at the Drachenlift. The Zipfelbobs can be rented directly at the ski lift.
